Inji-nious: Inji’s story is a fascinating one. Born Inci Guran in Turkey, Inji spent time in the UK and US, before studying finance. She recently graduated with that degree, and pretty much figured finance would set her on her career path. But then shit went down. After playing with friends and making music in her bedroom for shits and giggles, then posting songs online, people started paying attention. Boy, did they! Her song “Gaslight” went viral on TikTok, earning her over 6 billion views.Inji (Brett Callwood)She’s now being heralded as a “gen-z artist for the gen-z generation.” (gen-z, remember, being born somewhere between 1997 and 2012, so aged 11 to 26-ish). The key to that honor is that her pop songs are generally relatable; hopelessly catchy, eminently danceable, and with lyrics that make her audience feel like she’s singing very personally to them. That’s not make-believe either — at certain points, she tells her audien...

What the Fed’s July rate hike means for homebuyers and sellers

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 09:43:46 GMT

By Jeff Ostrowski, Bankrate.comThe Federal Reserve has resumed its war on inflation. After raising rates 10 times in 10 meetings in 2022 and 2023, the central bank took a break in June. But at its July 26 meeting, it was back to fighting form: Fed chairman Jerome Powell announced a quarter-point increase in interest rates.Earlier in the inflationary cycle, the Fed had enacted increases of as much as three-quarters of a point. Now that inflation is down to 3% — close to its official target of 2% — some housing economists think we are near the end of this round of tightening. “We do expect mortgage rates to trend down once the (Federal Open Markets Committee) clearly signals that they have reached the peak for this cycle, as the reduction in uncertainty with respect to the direction of rates should narrow the spread of mortgage rates relative to Treasury benchmarks,” says Mike Fratantoni, chief economist at the Mortgage Bankers Association. In an effort to rein in inflation, the Fed bo...

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Lindsey Horan is setting a feisty tone for the United States at the Women’s World Cup.Horan, the U.S. co-captain, steadied herself after an angry exchange with Dutch midfielder Danielle van de Donk and scored to give the United States a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands on Thursday.Frustrated by the Netherlands' first half lead, Horan went from exasperation with van de Donk to elation for her tying goal in a span of just two minutes in the second half.“To come from a goal down and have that momentum shift in the second half was incredible. I think no one was happy with our first-half performance, letting them have the ball a little bit too much, but we changed things, and how we responded,” she said. The tie keeps the United States atop the Group E standings, in front of the Netherlands with a better goal difference, and in good position to advance to the knockout round.
